Patna, March 30, 2024: Four-time MP Rajesh Ranjan alias Pappu Yadav on Saturday announced that he will contest the 2024 Lok Sabha election from Purnea.

In a written statement, Pappu Yadav’s private secretary Ajay Jaiswal said:

“Pappu Yadav will contest the election from the Purnea Lok Sabha seat in Bihar. He will file his nomination before the district returning officer in Purnea on April 2 at 10 am. We appeal to the people of Purnea to bless him with their support.”

The announcement comes a day after Pappu Yadav expressed support for the Congress party’s decisions in Bihar, emphasizing that he stands with the INDIA bloc’s objective of removing the current government.

“For me, the country comes first. Our leader, Rahul Gandhi, has formed the INDIA bloc with the motive to remove the current government, and I am with the decision of the party. We will host the flag of the Congress party in Purnea on April 26,” Yadav had said on Friday.

Triangular contest in Purnea:

The development is expected to make the Purnea battle triangular. Under the seat-sharing formula, the RJD is contesting on 26 seats, including Purnea, where it has already fielded Bima Bharti.

Pappu Yadav, who had merged his Jan Adhikar Party (JAP) with the Congress, hoping for a ticket from Purnea, changed his decision after RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav remarked on Friday that the matter was “related to Congress” and that RJD’s seat arrangements with Congress were finalized in January.

With this, Purnea Lok Sabha constituency will witness a high-stakes triangular fight between RJD’s Bima Bharti, BJP’s candidate, and Pappu Yadav as an independent, publicly supported contender.
