Patna, April 16, 2024: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday hit out at the opposition, accusing them of using the Constitution as a “political weapon” to mislead people.

Opposition leaders misleading people on Constitution, says PM Modi:

Addressing a rally in Bihar’s Gaya district, PM Modi said that neither the BJP nor the RSS would ever change the Constitution, and that such claims had been repeated for decades to spread fear.

“For the last 25 to 30 years, opposition leaders have been misleading people that the BJP would change the Constitution. I want to tell them that forget Modi or BJP, even Baba Saheb Bhim Rao Ambedkar himself would not change this Constitution,” Modi said.

He added that those who “threaten people with lies” should take note of the BJP’s track record.

“We have been in power in many states and also at the Centre under Atal Bihari Vajpayee. Yet, maximum peace in the country has come during our period,” Modi said.

The Prime Minister credited the Constitution for enabling him, a leader from a backward caste, to reach the nation’s top office. “If the Constitution written by Dr Rajendra Prasad and Baba Saheb Ambedkar were not here, a person like me could never have become the Prime Minister,” he said.

Calling the upcoming election not just a contest for the NDA’s victory but also a chance to “punish those who cause destruction in the country,” Modi urged people to give the NDA more than 400 seats.

Taking direct aim at RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav and his son Tejashwi Yadav, Modi called the party “the biggest face of Jungle Raj in Bihar.”

RJD is the biggest culprit in ruining Bihar. They looted the state, and Lalu Prasad was convicted in the fodder scam. They gave Bihar only two things—Jungle Raj and corruption. Kidnapping becomes an industry, sisters and daughters were afraid to step out, and Naxal violence engulfed areas like Gaya,” he said.

PM Modi targeted RJD:

Modi alleged that RJD had forced families to flee Bihar during its rule and accused them of now trying to “loot the country.”

He added, “When I say remove corruption, they say bring corruption. But today’s youth of Bihar are smart, they will never return to Jungle Raj.”

Using a sharp jibe, Modi asked the crowd, “Can mobile phones charge with a lantern? Those from the lantern era will never allow Bihar to move into the modern era.”

He also dismissed fears spread by rivals that minorities would be unsafe under BJP rule. “They said minorities would have to leave the country if the BJP-RSS came to power. But look around—they are living here with pride, dignity and availing all government benefits,” Modi said.
