Nityanand Rai said Lalu Prasad is the biggest opponent of reservation.
Patna September 3: Nityanand Rai, the Minister of State (MoS) for Home Affairs alleged that Lalu Prasad Yadav is the biggest opponent of reservation in the country.
The statement of Nityanand Rai came soon after Lalu Prasad Yadav said that he would force BJP/RSS to conduct the caste-based census in the country.
While interacting with the media persons in Patna, Rai said: “Lalu Prasad Yadav was an ally of the Congress-led government in the past. When the recommendations of the Mandal Commission were debated in the parliament and former PM Rajiv Gandhi opposed it, Lalu Prasad Yadav remained silent on it. He had not applied pressure on Congress to support the formation of a commission for OBC when he had the opportunity to do so as part of the ruling coalition,” Rai said.
“Lalu Prasad Yadav should repent for the sins he has committed and Tejaswi is committing the same. People know about their stand. Despite Lalu Prasad Yadav being part of the government, he did not give the reservation. Why he had not applied pressure on Congress to form the commission of the OBC?” Nityanand Rai asked.
“If anyone is against the reservation, it is Congress and RJD in the country,” he said.
Nityanand Rai defended the BJP’s stance on the reservation.
“BJP accepted the policies of reservation during the period of Jan Sangh. When Narendra Modi became the prime minister of the country, he established the commission for OBC and granted the constitutional status, reinforcing the commitment of the party to strengthen the policy of reservation in favor of Dalit, backward caste and EBC people,” Rai said.
“BJP strongly supports the views of Baba Saheb Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar, the architect of the Indian constitution.
Earlier in the day, Lalu Prasad Yadav took a strong stance against the BJP and the RSS, saying that he would compel them to conduct a caste-based census across the country.
In a social media post, Lalu Prasad Yadav, said, “We will get these RSS/BJP people to do caste census. What is their status that they will not get the caste census done? We will force them so much that they will have to do a caste census. The time has come to show the unity of Dalit, backward, tribal and poor people of Bihar.”
