Patna, October 5, 2025: After years of anticipation, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar will inaugurate Patna metro, the state’s first smart urban transport service, on Monday, October 6.

The much-awaited Patna Metro is expected to ease the city’s traffic congestion while saving commuters both time and money.

In its first phase, the metro will run on a 4.3 KM stretch of the Red Line, connecting ISBT station to Zero Mile Station and Bhoothnath Station.

According to the Patna Metro Rail Corporation Limited, the fare structure has been set at Rs 15 from ISBT to Zero Mile and Rs 30 from ISBT to Bhootnath Metro Station.

Patna Metro is a highly ambitious project of Nitish Kumar:

The total cost of this ambitious project is estimated at Rs 13,365 crore. Once fully completed, the metro network will expand to 24 stations across 32.5 KM in Patna, marking a major leap in the city’s public transport infrastructure.

The official said the maximum operating speed in the initial phase will be 40 KM per hour, with the train consisting of three modern coaches equipped with advanced passenger safety systems.

Each coach will feature 360-degree CCTV cameras, emergency buttons, and microphones that connect directly to the train driver, ensuring real-time safety responses.

Safety clearance and launch:

On Saturday, the Metro Rail Safety Commissioner granted approval to PMRCL for operations.

Following this, the Urban Development Department finalized the inauguration date.

The Patna Metro is being described as Bihar’s new identity for smart transport—fast, safe, and affordable.

The foundation of stone of the Patna Metro was laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on February 17, 2019, while construction for the first phase began in November 2020.

With the inauguration, Patna joins the list of Indian cities with metro connectivity, fulfilling a long-standing demand of residents and marking a major milestone in Bihar’s urban development.
