Patna, September 17, 2025: Just ahead of Navratri, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar made a big political move by directly transferring Rs. 5,000 each to 16.4 lakh construction workers across the state under the Annual Clothing assistance Scheme.

In total, Rs. 802.46 crore was disbursed via DBT, alongside the launch of a new web portal for the Chief Minister’s Promise Scheme.

Calling the initiative a tribute to Lord Vishwakarma and a gift on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday, Nitish Kumar said, “Our working brothers and sisters are the real strength; without their development, Bihar’s progress is incomplete.”

Political impact following Nitish Kumar’s move:

The JDU-BJP alliance has described the move as a model of development and social justice, aimed at uplifting the working class.

Political observers see it as a “masterstroke” ahead of the Bihar Assembly elections, directly targeting a large section of voters.

However, the opposition is unimpressed. The Congress and RJD accused Nitish Kumar of indulging in festival politics, alleging misuse of the government treasury for electoral gains.

Double message:

With this announcement, Nitish Kumar has not only sought to cement his connection with Bihar’s working class but also reaffirmed his alliance with the Centre, praising PM Modi’s continuous efforts for national development. Analysts suggest this Rs. 5,000 gift could be a game-changer in Bihar’s electoral strategy, especially among marginalized and low-income workers.
