Nitish Kumar inaugurated a double-decker flyover, a Rs. 422 crore infrastructure marvel.

Patna, June 11, 2025: In a significant boost to Patna’s urban infrastructure, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Wednesday inaugurated Bihar’s first double-decker flyover, a landmark Rs. 422 crore project aimed at transforming traffic management and connectivity in the state capital.

The state-of-the-art three-level elevated corridor, built along the busy Ashok Rajpath, is set to drastically ease traffic congestion in key academic, healthcare, and commercial zones of the city.

It is also expected to integrate seamlessly with the Patna Metro Project and the JP Ganga Path, creating a highly efficient urban mobility network.

Double-decker flyover is a dream project of Nitish Kumar:

The new traffic system offers a multi-tier experience with Tier-1 (Lower Deck) has a length of 1.45 km between Patna College and BN College, Tier-2 (Upper Deck) is a 2.2 km corridor from Kargil Chowk to Shatabdi Dwar, passing through Patna Science College and ground level (Service Road) is nearly complete, with 90% work done.

This structural innovation ensures uninterrupted vehicular flow across multiple levels, relieving pressure from traditionally congested zones like PMCH, Patna University, and Science College.

Connectivity and Urban Impact:

Apart from facilitating smooth transit across Ashok Rajpath the double-decker flyover also connects to major infrastructure nodes including JP Ganga Path, Mahatma Gandhi Setu and Kankarbagh, Bakarganj, Nala Road multi-level parking zones and the upcoming Patna metro rail project.

This integrated connectivity will significantly benefit students, doctors, patients, traders, and daily commuters, bringing efficiency and comfort to their urban experience.

A new identity for Patna:

Speaking at the inauguration, Nitish Kumar called the project a “new identity for the city,” highlighting it as a confluence of technology, planning, and aesthetic design.

He stated that the double-decker flyover stands as a model for other cities in Bihar, representing the state’s shift toward modern infrastructure.

“This is not just a bridge it’s a symbol of Bihar’s progress. The connectivity from Kargil Chowk to Science College will revolutionize traffic and elevate the urban profile of Patna,” said Kumar.

The double-decker flyover forms a critical component of Patna’s Smart City Mission, reinforcing the state government’s commitment to modern infrastructure development, urban mobility, and sustainable growth.
