Nitish Kumar government approves youth commission, neutralizes Tejashwi’s key poll plank.

Patna, July 8, 2025: In a strategic move ahead of the Bihar Assembly Elections 2025, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s government has approved the formation of a Youth Commission, effectively neutralizing a major promise of RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav.

Nitish Kumar announced it after the proposal passed in the cabinet meeting:

The decision, taken in the cabinet meeting on Tuesday, is being seen as an attempt by the JD(U)-led government to woo Bihar’s youth, a significant voter segment that Tejashwi Yadav has been actively courting with his promise to form a Youth Commission if elected.

Tejashwi Yadav had made youth issues and the promise of forming a Youth Commission a central part of his election narrative, assuring during a March 5 rally at Patna’s Millar High School that the commission would be formed within a month if the Mahagathbandhan came to power.

With the Nitish Kumar government’s pre-emptive move, the RJD’s poll strategy has taken a hit, prompting a sharp reaction from Tejashwi Yadav.

Tejashwi Yadav alleged Nitish Kumar government is a copycat:

In a post on social media, Tejashwi lashed out, calling the NDA a copycat government.

“We are ahead, and behind us is the 20-year-old, boring, sellable, pretentious government. Whatever promise we make, this copycat NDA government immediately copies it because tired people do not have any vision, roadmap, or blueprint of their own.”

Tejashwi further added: “Like many of our promises, the announcement of forming a ‘Youth Commission’ was also stolen by this copycat government today. We will keep waking up and shaking those who have been robbing the rights of the youth for 20 years. Now the country’s youngest state, Bihar, will get rid of this copycat and useless government.”

Earlier, Tejashwi Yadav had also promised to implement a 100% domicile policy, ensuring preference for Bihar’s youth in government jobs, a promise that resonated with the aspirants of job-seeking youth in the state.

The Bihar Youth Commission will advise the government on youth-related issues, coordinate with departments for skill development and employment generation, and monitor the implementation of policy to benefit local youth.

As Bihar moves towards elections, the Nitish Kumar government’s approval of the Youth Commission is being seen as a calculated step to regain momentum among young voters, countering the RJD’s aggressive youth-centric campaign.
