Patna, October 6, 2025: Bihar’s long-awaited dream of a metro rail service turned into reality as CM Nitish Kumar inaugurated the Patna Metro and took its first official ride.
Nitish Kumar also gave the nod for the construction of the underground metro from Rukunpura to Patna Junction as well.
Several state ministers and senior officials accompanied him during the historic launch.
Following the inaugural run, the Patna Metro was opened to the public amid much enthusiasm, with large crowds gathering to witness the beginning of modern mass transit in the state capital.
First phase operation of Patna Metro:
In its first phase, the Patna Metro will operate between New Patliputra ISBT, Zero Mile, and Bhoothnath stations.
Services will run daily from 8 am to 10 pm, with trains available at 20-minute intervals.
Initially, the metro will make 40 to 42 trips per day.

The three-coach train has a capacity of 945 passengers—about 315 per coach, including 147 seating capacity.
Each coach has 12 reserved seats for women and differently-abled passengers.
Fares have been fixed at Rs 15 between ISBT to Zero Mile and Rs 30 from ISBT to Bhoothnath Metro Station.
Expansion plans.
The line will soon be extended up to Khemnichak and Malahi Pakadi later this year.
The total cost of this ambitious project is estimated at Rs 13,365 crore.
Once fully completed, the metro network will expand to 24 stations across 32.5 KM in Patna, marking a major leap in the city’s public transport infrastructure.
Once fully operational, the Patna Metro will significantly reduce traffic congestion in the city while saving time and cost for commuters.

Speaking at the inauguration, CM Nitish Kumar said the metro project marks the beginning of a new era of smart, safe and affordable urban transport in Bihar.
“This metro will become a new identity of Patna and make travel easier for the people of the city,” he said.
