Nitish Kumar directed the officials to take preventive measures over bridge collapses.

Patna July 4: After 12 bridges collapsed in the last 17 days, Nitish Kumar, the Chief Minister of Bihar directed the Rural Works Department to develop a maintenance policy aligned with the Road Construction Department’s standards to improve infrastructure safety and longevity.

He directed the officials to establish a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for regular bridge inspections followed by their care to prevent future incidents.

“I have directed the officials to visit the sites to assess the condition of old bridges and take prompt maintenance actions to prevent infrastructure failures,” Kumar said.

He said vigilance, continuous monitoring, and strict accountability measures for maintaining roads and bridges are required here for public safety.

Frequent bridge collapses in Bihar are taking political color these days. The blame game unfolded in Bihar.

Former Deputy CM Tejashwi Yadav slammed the Nitish Kumar government over frequent bridge collapses. He highlighted multiple recent incidents that underscore a serious issue.

He pointed out a bridge collapsed on Thursday morning and five bridges collapsed a day earlier on July 3. So far, 12 bridges have collapsed since June 18 in Bihar.

“Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar have remained silent on these incidents suggests frustration over the perceived lack of leadership response and accountability. They are thinking that how could blame the opposition for several bridge collapses,” Yadav said.

Sanjay Jaiswal, the BJP MP from West Champaran said: “Tejashwi Yadav was the minister of road construction and rural development minister in the Grand Alliance government. He worked for 17 months in Bihar. So he should take the blame for frequent bridge collapses.” EOM.
