Patna, October 8, 2024: Nitin Nabin, the Urban Development and Housing Minister of the Bihar Government on Tuesday claimed 74 projects under the Smart City Mission have been completed in Bihar.

He further said that a total of 129 projects fall under the Smart City Mission, and the remaining 55 projects will be completed in the next 5 months. These projects have been completed 70% so far.

“One of the flagship initiatives of the Smart City Mission is the metro project of Patna, which spans 32.5 km with 25 proposed stations—12 elevated, 12 underground and one Grade Transit Station. The total cost of the project is estimated at Rs 13,365.77 crore,” Nabin said.

The Patna metro has two main corridors: the first, 17.93 km long, will run from Danapur Cant to Jawahar Lal Nehru Marg near Beily Road, while the second, 14.57 km long, will connect Patna Railway Station to Patliputra bus terminal via Akashwani Bhawan, Gandhi Maidan, Ashok Rajpath, Rajendra Nagar, Malahi Pakadi, Khemni Chak and Zero Mile.

Nitin Nabin shared the details of the construction of a 6.5 km priority corridor with five stations—starting from Malahi Pakadi to Patliputra Bus Stand via Zero Mile, Bhutnath and Khemnichak.

“The construction of the priority corridor is moving swiftly, with significant progress for the City’s infrastructure development,” Nabin said.

Patna Metro is an ambitious project of the Nitish Kumar government, aiming to complete at least the priority corridor of 6.5 km before the assembly election 2025.

Nitin Nabin also said that metro projects are also proposed for other major cities like Bhagalpur, Gaya, Muzaffarpur and Darbhanga.

Additionally, Nitin Nabin also shared details of the ongoing construction of the subway between Bihar Museum and Patna Museum with an estimated cost of Rs 542 crores. The Bihar government has given the contract to Patna Metro Rail Corporation and Rs 75 crore has already been transferred to the construction company.

Nitin Nabi highlighted that Patna Bhagalpur, Muzaffarpur and Bihar Sharif have been selected by the central government for development under the Smart City Mission. Some of the key projects under this mission include Sewage Treatment plants, multilevel car parking, road over bridges, riverfront development, improvement of cremation grounds and others.

Nabin also shared the details of Namami Gange Projects and said the 27 cities are located on the bank of Ganga and its tributaries in Bihar and 37 projects approved to clean the rivers.
