Patna, August 11: Nitin Nabin, the Urban Development Department of Bihar government has cancelled the leave of every official till September this year.
The decision was taken after severe water logging in Patna due to heavy rain on Saturday night.
The waterlogging issues, which affect several areas of the state capital and cause significant inconvenience to residents, have highlighted the shortcomings in the city’s drainage system.
In an emergency meeting, Minister Nitin Nabin expressed strong dissatisfaction with the handling the situation. As a result, he cancelled the leave of all urban development department officials until September this year.
This move intend to ensure that the department remains fully staffed and focus on addressing the drainage and waterlogging problem in Patna.
During the meeting, Digha MLA Sanjeev Chaurasia, Patna Mayor Sita Sahu, Deputy Mayor Reshmi Chandravanshi, Principal Secretary of Urban Development Department Anand Kishore, Municipal Commissioner Animesh Parashar and Executive Engineers of all zones including MD of BUIDCO were present.
Nitin Nabin issued firm instruction to the officials, emphasizing the need for honest work and vigilance. He also directed them to drain water by installing super suckers in waterlogged areas.
During the meeting, the minister sought detailed reports on the condition of waterlogging and drainage in key areas such as Kankarbagh, Punaichak, Pataliputra Colony, Gosain Tola, Gandhi Maidan and other areas.

He also took stock of the waterlogged areas in Patliputra roundabout also inspected the drainage pumping plant of Gosain Tola and gave necessary instructions.
“One of the main reasons for water logging is heavy rainfall in a short period of time. To prevent this, instructions have been given to ensure that there is no mechanical or electrical error in the pump running at the Drainage Pumping Station (DPS). Also, guidelines have been given to ensure that there is no disruption in power supply,” said Nitin Nabin.
Earlier, Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar visited several water logging areas and drainage pumping station as well.
