Patna, March 8, 2026: Bihar CM Nitish Kumar’s son Nishant Kumar formally joined the Janata Dal United (JDU) at the party headquarters in Patna on Sunday afternoon, marking his official entry into active politics.

Several senior party leaders were present during the occasion, including JDU National Working President Sanjay Kumar Jha, Union Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh alias Lalan Singh, Water Resource Minister of Bihar Vijay Kumar Choudhary, Energy Minister Bijendra Prasad Yadav and state president Umesh Singh Kushwaha.

During the ceremony, Sanjay Jha presented Nishant Kumar with a party cap and memento, while Lalan Singh honoured him with a party turban.

Nishant Kumar pledged to continue Nitish Kumar’s work:

Speaking after joining the party, Nishant Kumar said he would work under the guidance of his father, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.

“Today, I came here to join the party. My father has decided to go to the Rajya Sabha, and it is his decision. But we will work under his guidance in Bihar,” he said.

He added that Nitish Kumar had done significant work for the development of Bihar and that he would carry forward those efforts.

Nishant Kumar also appealed to party workers and supporters to maintain their enthusiasm and faith in the party and thanked senior leaders for supporting him.

After the ceremony, he sought the blessings of Lalan Singh by touching his feet and greeted Sanjay Jha and other party leaders.

Political outreach across Bihar planned:

According to JDU MLC Neeraj Kumar, Nishant Kumar will soon travel across various regions of Bihar to interact with the public.

Sources indicate that he may begin his political journey from the Champaran region, a place closely associated with Nitish Kumar’s earlier political visits.

The political circle is also speculating that Nishant Kumar could eventually be appointed Deputy Chief Minister in the new government.

However, no official announcement has been made so far.

Currently, the Deputy Chief Minister positions in Bihar are held by Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha.

Even before his formal entry into politics, Nishant had been active within the party.

A day before joining, he held meetings with senior leaders, young MLAs and senior leaders at the residence of Sanjay Jha and later interacted with district presidents.
