Narendra Modi government approved the airport in Bihta.
Patna, August 17: The Narendra Modi Government has approved the development of a new airport in Bihta, a town on the outskirts of Patna.
This decision was made during the meeting of the Union Cabinet of the Narendra Modi government in New Delhi on Friday, where Rs 1413 crore was allocated for the project.
The Airport Authority of India (AAI) will be responsible for constructing the airport which will include 10 parking bays designed to accommodate large aircraft such as A-321, B 737-800 and A 320. Additionally, an airport will be built to support these operations.
This new airport in Bihta, approximately 30 kilometers from Patna, is expected to alleviate the heavy air traffic currently handled by Jay Prakash Narayan International Airport in Patna.
The existing airport has reached its capacity, and its location restricted further expansion due to limited available land.
Bihta already hosts an Indian Air Force Station, and there has been a long-standing proposal to establish a civilian airport in the area.
The state government had previously allocated 108 acres of land to AAI for this purpose in 2017-18.
This airport project follows other significant developments in Bihar, such as the approval of an AIIMS in Darbhanga.
Following the approval, JD (U) working president expressed gratitude to the Narendra Modi government for it.
