Lalu Prasad Yadav invited limited guests for the Dahi-Chuda feast on Makar Sankranti.

Patna January 14, 2025: RJD Chief Lalu Prasad Yadav continues the tradition of hosting his much-anticipated Dahi-Chuda feast at Rabri Devi’s residence on 10 Circular Road.

However, unlike the grand, open-for-all feasts of earlier years, this year’s event, like last year’s, is limited to a select group of leaders.

This exclusivity reflects a shift in strategy, focusing on consolidating inner circles rather than mass outreach.

Lalu Prasad Yadav’s Dahi-Chura feast always have significant importance:

Preparations for this iconic feast began two days in advance, and as Tuesday morning unfolded, prominent invites arrived on the occasion.

A subdued Makar Sankranti, political speculation peaked when Lalu Prasad Yadav offered an alliance to Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. However, Nitish Kumar’s rejection of the proposal ended the buzz, leaving this year’s festival devoid of the dramatic reshuffling often seen during this time.

Besides Lalu Prasad Yadav, BJP and Congress join the tradition:

The BJP is also making its presence felt through a feast hosted by state president Dilip Jaiswal, with all NDA alliance leaders invited. Meanwhile, the Congress continues the tradition with its own feast at Sadakat Ashram, using the occasion to connect with party workers and reaffirm its presence in the state’s political sphere.

Earlier, Deputy CM Vijay Kumar Sinha hosted a feast attended by Governor Arif Mohammad Khan and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, signalling the importance of such gathering in fostering connections across the political spectrum.

These feasts are more than Festive gatherings; they are deeply symbolic events where alliances are displayed, messages are conveyed, and subtle political strategies are executed. While this year’s Makar Sankranti may not have seen ground breaking realignments, the tradition of Dahi-Chuda politics continues to underscore the interplay of food, culture, and politics in Bihar.
