Kishore Kunal would get the Padma Vibhushan award 2025, Bihar Government recommended to the centre.

Patna January 16, 2025: The Bihar State Level Recommendation Committee has posthumously recommended the late Acharya Kishore Kunal for the prestigious Padma Vibhushan Award 2025, recognizing his remarkable contribution to social service.

The recommendation has been formally forwarded to the Ministry of Home Affairs by the Bihar Cabinet Secretariat, with additional Secretary Suman Kumar addressing a letter to Joint Secretary Gopalaswami Parthasarathy.

Acharya Kishore Kunal’s Life and Legacy:

Acharya Kishore Kunal, a former IPS officer and a celebrated social reformer, passed away on December 29, 2024, due to a heart attack.

His demise evoked widespread grief, with tributes pouring in from across the nation, including from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, and former Bihar CM and Union Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi. While Manjhi called for him to be honoured with the Bharat Ratna, the Bihar government has nominated him for the Padma Vibhushan.

Kishore Kunal, a retired IPS known for his exemplary social service:

Kishore Kunal was an Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of the 1972 Gujarat cadre. He served as Superintendent of Police in Anand and later became Deputy Commissioner of Police in Ahmedabad by 1978. In 1983, he was appointed Senior Superintendent of Police in Patna.

In 2001, he voluntarily retired from the IPS to dedicate himself to social service and religious endeavours.

Post-retirement, Acharya Kishore Kunal served as the Chairman of the Bihar State Religious Trust Board and the Secretary of the Mahavir Mandir Trust, Patna.

As Secretary of the Mahavir Mandir Trust established multiple healthcare facilities, including Mahavir Cancer Institute, a state-of-the-art cancer treatment centre, Mahavir Arogya Sansthan in Kankarbagh, a hospital aimed at providing affordable healthcare and Mahavir Netralaya.
