Kaladhar Mandal will contest as a JD (U) candidate in the Rupauli assembly bye-poll

Patna June 14: Janata Dal United announced the candidate for the bye-election on Rupauli assembly seat on Friday. The party has given the ticket to Kaladhar Mandal.

While announcing the name of Kaladhar Prasad Mandal, Umesh Kushwaha, the state president of JD (U) showed confidence in him for winning this seat. CM Nitish Kumar has made him the candidate after careful consideration.

The bye-election on the Rupauli assembly seat will take place in July this year. The seat was vacant after JD (U) MLA Bima Bharti resigned from the post before the Lok Sabha election. She had contested the Lok Sabha election from Purnea seat but lost the battle to independent candidate Rajesh Ranjan alias Pappu Yadav. Bima Bharti came in the third position.

“There is no doubt about his activism in the party. We are confident that he will achieve a historic victory,” Kushwaha said while briefing the media persons in Patna.

Kaladhar Prasad Mandal contested the 2020 assembly elections on an RJD ticket but joined JD (U) in the run-up to the Lok Sabha election. The party has given him a ticket from Rupauli.

The nomination process started today (June 14) and voting will be held on July 10.

The last date for filing the nomination is June 21, while the nomination papers will be scrutinized on June 24. Nominations will be withdrawn by June 26 and counting will be done on July 13.

The Rupauli assembly bye-poll is expected to be contested by the candidates with great intensity. The role of recently elected MP Pappu Yadav will be important. His presence may affect the bye-poll and the candidate who would be backed by him has a good chance to win the contest.
