Patna, April 6, 2026: Amid intensifying political buzz in Bihar, workers of the Janata Dal (United) on Monday raised fresh demands urging Chief Minister Nitish Kumar to hand over the state’s top post to his son, Nishant Kumar.
The demand gained visibility during an official event in Patna, where Nitish Kumar had arrived to inaugurate a newly constructed guest house at the MLC quarters.
While the event initially echoed with slogans of “Nitish Kumar Zindabad,” the mood soon shifted with party workers raising chants of “Bihar ka CM Nishant Kumar Zindabad,” signaling growing support for Nishant Kumar’s elevation.
Deputy Chief Ministers Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha were present on the dias. The Chief Minister, smiling, acknowledged the crowd before proceeding with the program.
Political speculation intensifies post-demand before Nitish Kumar:
Speculation is mounting in political circles that Nitish Kumar could soon take oath as a member of the Rajya Sabha, possibly around April 10.
After resigning from the Legislative Council, discussions are gaining momentum about Nitish Kumar handing over the post of Chief Minister to his son Nishant Kumar.
Sources indicate that a possible reshuffle or formation of a new government in Bihar may take place after the conclusion of Kharmas, considered an inauspicious period in the Hindu calendar.

At present, deliberations between the BJP and JD(U) are ongoing over key portfolios.
A consensus has reportedly not yet been reached on crucial departments such as the Home Ministry and the post of Assembly Speaker.
Despite the growing chatter, no official confirmation has been issued regarding any leadership change.
Inauguration of the modern guest house:
Earlier in the day, Nitish Kumar inaugurated a modern guest house at the MLC quarters complex in Patna.
The facility has been equipped with several amenities, including a library and a cafeteria, aimed at providing improved infrastructure for legislators and visitors.

The event was attended by several senior leaders, including Legislative Council Chairman Awadhesh Narain Singh, Assembly Speaker Prem Kumar, and ministers Vijay Choudhary and Ashok Choudhary.
Government’s response:
Speaking on the occasion, Bihar minister Shravan Kumar stated that the new guest house has been designed to accommodate visiting dignitaries and public representatives, including legislators from other states.
