Patna, July 23, 2025: JDU MP Girdhari Yadav claimed the Election Commission has no knowledge of the history and geography of Bihar following its Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list.
With the Bihar Assembly adjourned repeatedly over the issue and the opposition staging protests, the statement of Girdhari Yadav has given a new twist it this matter.
Girdhari Yadav’s sharp criticism:
Girdhari Yadav, a four-time MP from Banka, has termed the Election Commission’s decision on the SIR as a ‘Tughlaqi decree.’
“The Election Commission does not have practical knowledge of Bihar’s history and geography. It should not have conducted this process during the rainy and farming season. It took us ten days to collect the papers. My son is in America, How will he sign within a month? If this were to be done, it should have been started six months ago,” Girdhari Yadav says.
While clarifying that the party supports the SIR, Yadav said he was expressing personal views as an MP.
“We will vote with the party, but I also have my own views. If you think this is against the party, so be it, but this is the truth. If we cannot speak the truth, why are we MPs?” he said.
Yadav also raised concerns about deteriorating law and order in Bihar, stating that the situation has worsened compared to before.
JDU MLA Dr. Sanjeev Kumar echoed Giridhari Yadav on SIR:
Dr. Sanjeev Kumar, the JDU MLA from Parbatta in Khagaria district, also expressed dissatisfaction with the process, highlighting how the names of poor and migrant laborers have been removed from the voter list in his constituency.
“It is justified to delete the names of the deceased, but deleting the names of the poor and workers who are outside the state due to work is wrong. Many cannot apply online, and many are unreachable now. This will affect the NDA’s vote bank.”

He emphasized that the timing was inappropriate.
“Summer vacation would have been the right time, as many migrants return home. Now, migrants will return only during Diwali and Chhath Puja, making it difficult to complete the process in time. If names of infiltrators are being deleted, it is good, but genuine voters should not be excluded,” Sanjeev said.
He expressed concern that many genuine voters are being left out, demanding more time for migrant workers to ensure they are included.
