Patna, October 14, 2025: In a fresh setback to CM Nitish Kumar and JDU, Bhagalpur MP Ajay Kumar Mandal has written to the Chief Minister seeking permission to resign from his post.
In a letter addressed to JDU national president and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Mandal expressed deep disappointment over being side-lined in the ticket selection process within his constituency.
“With your blessings and guidance, I have been serving the people of Bhagalpur for the past 20-25 years as an MLA and MP,” he wrote.
“However, for the past few months, decisions have been made within the organization that are not a good sign for the party and its future.”
Ajay Kumar Mandal alleged that the party has ignored local leadership:
Mandal alleged that despite being the local MP, he was neither consulted nor informed during the candidate selection process for the upcoming Bihar Assembly polls.
He also claimed that individuals who had never worked for the party were being favoured for tickets, while the opinions of district presidents and local workers were being ignored.
Ajay Kumar Mandal pointed out his past contribution:
He further remained Nitish Kumar of his past contributions, noting that in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, his constituency was the only one in Bihar where JDU won an Assembly by-election under his leadership.
“It is becoming difficult for me to understand the justification of remaining an MP when the opinions of dedicated workers and local leadership no longer hold importance,” he stated, adding that his decision was not out of anger but concern for the party’s future.
Ajay Kumar Mandal concluded his letter by saying, “Therefore, with self-respect and true loyalty to the organization, I humbly request you to grant me permission to resign from my post as an MP.”
Political observers see Mandal’s move as another sign of growing dissatisfaction within the JDU ranks, particularly over ticket distribution and internal decision-making ahead of the high-stakes Assembly polls.
