Patna, October 3, 2025: In a major jolt to JDU, Dr Sanjiv Kumar, the sitting MLA of Parbatta, has joined the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) on Friday.

The development was confirmed by RJD leader and former Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav.

“Dr Sanjiv Kumar, the sitting MLA of JDU, has joined our party. With this, our party will become stronger in the district,” Tejashwi said.

Tejashwi appreciated Sanjiv Kumar joining in RJD:

The significance of this shift is evident as Tejashwi himself joined the ceremony to formally induct Kumar into the party—a gesture underscoring the importance RJD attaches to his entry.

Sanjiv Kumar’s rebellious stance came during the floor test last year:

Dr Sanjiv Kumar has long been considered one of the rebellious voices within the JDU.

During the February 2024 floor test of the Nitish Kumar government, he reached the Assembly late after reportedly being intercepted while crossing the Bihar-Jharkhand border.

Though he eventually voted in support of Nitish Kumar, his actions drew speculation about his loyalty.

This was not the first time JDU has faced desertions of this nature. Former Rupauli MLA Bima Bharti also displayed dissent during the floor test before resigning from JDU and joining RJD.

She later contested both the Purnea Lok Sabha election and the Rupauli by-poll on an RJD ticket but lost.

Both Sanjiv Kumar and Bima Bharti are expected to contest the upcoming Assembly elections from Parbatta and Rupauli, respectively, as RJD candidates, potentially bolstering the party’s base in Khagaria and Purnea districts.
