Patna, July 20, 2024: The INDIA bloc held a protest march in Patna, highlighting the rising crime incidents in Bihar.
The leaders and workers of RJD, Congress, CPI, CPM and CPI-ML participated, carrying posters and flags of their respective parties.
Protest march of the INDIA bloc:
The march began from the Income Tax Square and proceeded towards the office of the district magistrate of Patna via the Dak Bungalow Chowk. Despite police barricades at Income Tax Chowk, the INDIA bloc leaders and supporters broke through and reached Dak Bungalow Chowk, where heavy police barricades prevented further progress, resulting in a scuffle between supporters and the police.
Eventually, officials of the Patna district allowed one member from every political party that comes under the INDIA bloc to proceed to the office of the district magistrate, where they handed over the memorandum to Patna DM Chandrashekhar Singh.

The protest was initiated to highlight the rising crime incidents in Bihar. The leader of the opposition in the Bihar assembly, Tejashwi Yadav, is vocal on this issue and regularly releases the crime bulletins to target the Nitish Kumar government.
The murder of Jitan Sahani, father of VIP chief Mukesh Sahani, has become the focal point to criticize the Nitish Kumar government.

The opposition blamed the NDA government:
The leaders of the INDIA bloc criticized the state government’s silence on rising crime in Bihar.
“When the father of a leading politician is not secure in Bihar, then how could the common people be secure here? Nitish Kumar has no right to sit on the chair of the chief minister,” said CPI-ML legislator Mahboob Alam.
“The state government is silent on the rising crime incidents in Bihar. They are having high-level meetings, but the crime incidents are not stopping. The state government has to answer to it. We will take answers during the upcoming monsoon session of the Bihar assembly.”
