Howrah-Bhagalpur Vande Bharat Express extended to Jamalpur, flagged off on August 16.

Patna, August 15, 2025: Bihar’s rail network is set to get another boost with the launch of the Jamalpur-Howrah Vande Bharat Express, extending the semi-high speed service to Munger district.

The train, an extension of the Bhagalpur—Howrah Vande Bharat Express, will be flagged off on August 16 by Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary and Union Minister and Munger MP Rajiv Ranjan Singh alias Lalan Singh.

Malda DRM announced the extension of the Vande Bharat Express:

Manish Kumar Gupta, the Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) of Malda division, said the long-demanded extension to Jamalpur will improve connectivity for Munger and surrounding districts.

Regular Operations will begin on August 17, with the train running six days a week except Friday.

Vande Bharat train will depart from Jamalpur at 3.30 PM, reaching Howrah (Kolkata) at 10.05 PM via Bhagalpur (4.22 PM), Barahat, Mandir Hill, Dumka, Rampurhat and Bholpur Shanti Niketan.

In the reverse direction, it will leave Howrah at 7.45 AM, arriving at Jamalpur at 2.15 PM, stopping at Bhagalpur at 1.15 PM.

Vande Bharat Express will take less time than normal trains:

The journey will take just 6.5 hours compared to the 9-10 hours taken by other trains such as the Kaviguru Express.

Fares of the AC Chair Car are set at Rs 1290 while the Executive Class will cost Rs 2,335.

The train will feature modern amenities, including GPS-based passenger information, automatic sliding doors, bio-toilets, Wi-Fi, CCTV, reclining seats and enhanced security.

The new service is expected to benefit both business and leisure travellers, further strengthening links between Bihar and West Bengal.

Railway officials have advised passengers to book early due to expected heavy demand in the initial weeks.
