Patna, October 7, 2025: After the announcement of the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections, renowned folk singer Maithali Thakur is likely to contest from her home district, Darbhanga, on a BJP ticket.
Interacting with the reporters, Maithali Thakur confirmed that she had met Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai and BJP senior leader Vinod Tawde to discuss issues related to Bihar’s development.
“We have met Nityanand Rai and Vinod Tawde and discussed various matters concerning the state’s development. We are looking into it, but no official announcement has been made so far,” Thakur said.
Maithali Thakur says she is deeply rooted in her home district:
Expressing her wish to serve her native region, she added, ‘I wish to contest the election from my native place as I am deeply attached to it.”
When asked about her political preference, Thakur refrained from making any direct comment.
“The most important thing is the development of the state and the country. I want to contribute my efforts for the progress of both,” she said.
Maithali Thakur, who enjoys immense popularity in the Mithilanchal region, has maintained close ties with the BJP and NDA in the past.
Maithili Thakur was attacked with the NDA in the past:
During the 2020 Bihar Assembly elections, she sang a campaign song highlighting the development work of the NDA government—seen as a musical counter to Neha Singh Rathore’s viral political number “Bihar Me Ka Ba.”
The BJP has a history of fielding prominent public figures and celebrates in the Bihar elections.

In 2020, the party gave a ticket to international shooter Shreyasi Singh from Jamui, who went on to win the seat.
While the NDA’s seat-sharing arrangement and list of candidates are yet to be finalized, Thakur’s potential candidature from Darbhanga has already generated buzz in political circles.
Elections in Darbhanga will be held in the first phase on November 6.
