The flood situation is worsening in Patna. The CM did an aerial survey. 

Patna, September 20, 2024: With the flood situation worsening in Patna and adjoining districts, flooded due to the rising water of the Ganga River, Bihar CM Nitish Kumar conducted an aerial survey on Friday to assess the situation.

The situation is Alarming in Maner, Danapur, Fatuha, Bind Tola, Bakhtiyarpur and other places in Patna districts, forcing many residents to flee to higher grounds, such as JP Ganga Pathway, also known as Marine Drive, embankments and other roads to escape floodwaters.

The situation in Maner block has worsened as six Panchayats were completely cut off from the mainland. The situation in Kangan Ghat, Nasriganj, Digha Ghar, Pahalwan Ghat, Bas Ghat, Anta Ghat, and other areas of Patna is flooded with water.

Over the last few days, heavy rain in the Poorvanchal region of Bihar and Uttar Pradesh and excessive water in tributaries like the Son and Gandak Rivers have led to rising water levels in the Ganga River. This has led to homes being inundated with up to 5 feet of water. 

“The water entered our houses up to hip height. Surviving in villages is impossible. Hence, we are going towards the embankment to take shelter. The district administration has not provided boats, and hence we are risking our lives by transporting daily need items like LPG cylinders and other cooking equipment on tubes,” Radheshyam Paswan, a resident of Haldi Chapra village in Maner block.

Several villagers of Bind Tola have taken shelter on Marine Drive as well.

At Digha Ghat, Patna, the water level is 1.19 meters above the danger mark. The current status of the water level at this place is 51.64 meters.

The water level of Gandhi Ghat is 50.19 meters, which is 1.59 meters above the danger mark.

The water level at Hathidah in Patna district is 43.15 meters, which is 1.39 meters above the danger level.

The situation in Bhagalpur is also alarming. The water level of the Ganga River in Bhagalpur is 33.88 meters, which is 20 cm above the danger level.

At Kahalgaon in Bhagalpur district, the water level is 31.70 meters, which is 61 cm above the danger level.

Vijay Kumar Sinha, the deputy Chief Minister of Bihar, acknowledged the worsening flood situation in Patna and other districts.

“The water resource department, as well as respective districts and disaster management teams, are working around the clock to secure embankments and provide aid to the victims,” Sinha said.

In Kaimur, the situation at Tutla Bhawani waterfall, that the water flow is dangerously intense. The district administration has issued an advisory to the tourists to avoid the area, as the intense water flow makes survival impossible.

Chanchal Prakasham, the DFO of Kaimur, said, “I want to appeal to the tourists to stay away from all waterfalls as they have become dangerous now.”

In the Bhojpur district, Shahpur, Barahra, Koilwar and Sadar blocks are severely affected due to the rising water level of the Ganga River.

Tanay Sultania, the district magistrate of Bhojpur, said, “11 Gram Panchayats are completely submerged in water. Besides, some villages are partially affected by floods as well. We have deployed Circle officers and Block Development officers in the region to closely monitor the situation and provide aid to the victims.”
