Patna July 15: Five men, including Chedi Ram, the ex-cabinet minister of the Bihar government, have been arrested on the charge of land grab in Buxar, an official said on Monday.
Buxar police also seized 1 rifle, 57 live cartridges and a Scorpio vehicle from their possession. The incident occurred on Sunday evening.
Action of Buxar police: The police official said that there was a land dispute between Ambuj Choubey and Ganesh Choubey in Basantpur Chawani village under Rajpur police station and Chedi Ram came in support of Ganesh Choubey to allegedly grab the land.
“We have received a complaint from a person named Ambuj Choubey in Rajpur police station on Sunday evening. He said that some armed men were grabbing his land in the village. A team from Rajpur police station immediately reached there. Upon seeing the police team, Chedi Ram and his aides ran away from the place in a Scorpio SUV. The police team chased them for around 10 km and finally nabbed five men boarded in the SUV,” said Dhiraj Kumar, SDPO of Sadar range Buxar.
Seizure of arms and ammunition: During checking of the vehicle, we found 1 rifle and 57 live cartridges in their possession. They have been booked under relevant charges of land grab. We are also investigating how he procured such a huge cache of ammunition. The sections of the arms act will be added after the investigation,” he said.
Clarification of Chedi Ram: “I went there on the call of a person named Mukhiya Ji. I was just talking with them when the police team reached there. While I was returning home, the police team arrested me. I have nothing to do with the land grab.”
Chedi Ram was a former RJD MLA from the Rajpur assembly constituency in Buxar.
