Dilip Jaiswal criticized Tejashwi Yadav on reservation demand and defended the double-engine government.

Patna, June 9, 2025: Amid the rising political discourse over 65% reservation for backward and marginalized communities in Bihar, BJP state president Dilip Jaiswal has launched a strong counterattack against Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav accusing the RJD-Congress alliance of political hypocrisy.

Responding to Tejashwi Yadav’s social media post that criticized the Nitish Kumar-led double engine government for not ensuring the constitutional safeguard of the 65% reservation provision, Jaiswal said.

“Congress ruled India for 65 years and Lalu Prasad Yadav ruled Bihar for 15 years. Why didn’t they implement such a reservation for the Dalit and backward classes? Why was the Kaka Kalelkar committee report shelved for 30 years under their watch?”

Dilip Jaiswal given credit to the NDA government:

He added that the current NDA government, both at the state and central levels, has taken concrete steps for social justice.

“It was Nitish Kumar’s double engine government that decided to provide 65% reservation to Dalits, Mahadalits, Backward Classes and Extremely Backward Classes. The issue is pending in court, and RJD is trying to do politics over it instead of supporting the move.” Dilip Jaiswal also credited the Narendra Modi government for empowering the backward classes.

“Lalu Prasad never gave constitutional status to the Backward Class Commission. It was PM Modi’s government that did it. Modi also awarded Bharat Ratnam to Karpoori Thakur, a long-standing icon of backward class rights,” Jaiswal said.

Tejashwi’s Counterattack:

Earlier in the day, Tejashwi Yadav demanded a one-day special session of the Bihar Assembly to pass the 65% reservation bill and press for its inclusion in the 9th Scheduled of the Constitution, which would shield it from judicial review.

He also questioned the silence of Union Minister Chirag Paswan, Jitan Ram Manjhi and Upendra Kushwaha leaders who often speak on Dalit and backward class issues.

“Why are they not raising their voices against Nitish Kumar and PM Modi for not including this bill in the 9th Scheduled? Is retaining power?” Tejashwi asked.

The reservation issues have reignited debate in Bihar ahead of the 2025 Assembly elections, with Tejashwi Yadav trying to position himself as the champion of social justice, while the NDA camp defends its track record and blames past governments for inaction.
