Patna, April 19, 2024: A Bihar Police constable lost his SLR assault rifle along with 20 live cartridges while on election duty in Nawada district on Friday, prompting his immediate suspension.
The constable was on election duty:
The cop, identified as Uttam Kumar Raut (Batch No. 558) from Samastipur, was deployed at Polling Station No. 234, located at a primary school in Rajo Bigha village under Pakribarawan police station limits.
Confirming the development, Nawada SP Kartikey K. Sharma said, “We have received information about a missing SLR rifle and 20 live cartridges from a polling station in Rajo Bigha village. The weapon was allotted to constable Uttam Kumar Raut.”
Sharma said that after the SHO of Pakribarawan police station conducted a probe and submitted his report, strict action was taken.
Department action against the constable:
“The constable has been suspended for negligence, and an inquiry has been initiated against him. An FIR has also been registered in the matter,” the SP added
Despite the incident, Sharma clarified that polling in the district was conducted in a smooth and peaceful manner.
