Constable lost SLR rifle during election duty, suspended.

Patna April 19: A constable of Bihar police lost his SLR assault rifle and 20 live cartridges in Bihar’s Nawada district on Friday. The district SP suspended him for negligence.

The constable named Uttam Kumar Raut (Batch number 558). He was on the election duty and was deployed at polling station number 234 located at primary school Rajo Bigha village under Pakribarawan police station in the district.

“We have received information about a SLR rifle and 20 live cartridges were missing in a polling station in Rajo Bigha village. The SLR rifle was allotted to a constable of Samastipur named Uttam Kumar Raut,” said Kartikey K Sharma, SP of Nawada district.

“Raut was deployed on election duty. Following the incident, the SHO of Pakribarawan police station investigated the matter and reported us. Following his report, we have suspended that constable for his carelessness and inquiry initiated against him. We have also registered an FIR in the matter,” Sharma said.

He added that the polling in the district was smooth and peaceful.
