Patna, April 2, 2024: The Congress Party on Thursday announced the names of three candidates who will contest the Lok Sabha elections from Bihar.

The party has fielded Ajit Sharma from Bhagalpur, Tariq Anwar from Katihar, and Mohammad Jawaid from Kishanganj.

Polling for these three constituencies will be held in the nomination process beginning on March 28, and the last date for filing papers is set for April 5.

Mohammad Jawaid is the sitting MP of Congress:

Mohammad Jawaid, the lone sitting MP of the Grand Alliance in Bihar, will once again contest from Kishanganj. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Javed had defeated the JD(U) candidate, securing Congress’s only victory in the state, where the NDA swept 39 out of 40 seats.

Senior Congress leader Tariq Anwar will contest from Katihar, a Muslim-majority constituency in eastern Bihar. Anwar, who won the seat in 2014 on an NCP ticket, later switched to JD(U)’s Dulal Chandra Goswami in 2019. Both leaders are set to face each other again in 2024.

In Bhagalpur, the Congress has nominated Ajit Sharma, the party’s former CLP leader and sitting MLA from the constituency. Known for his influence in the Bhagalpur region, Sharma will take on JD(U)’s sitting MP Ajay Mandal in what is expected to be a high-stakes contest.

The grand old party is contesting on the nine seats:

The Congress, a key constituent of the INDIA bloc in Bihar, is contesting on nine Lok Sabha seats. So far, the party has officially announced candidates for three of them. Under the seat-sharing arrangement, RJD is contesting on 26 seats, CPI(ML) on 3, while CPI and CPM are contesting one seat each.
