Patna, December 27, 2025: The cold wave has intensified across Bihar, severely affecting daily life.
Icy westerly winds and dense fog have increased hardships for people, with visibility dropping to near zero in many parts of the state.
The biting cold has left people shivering as temperatures continue to fall.
IMD issued a cold wave and dense fog warning:
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Saturday issued a cold day and dense fog warning for all 38 districts of Bihar.
According to the department, the intense cold conditions are likely to persist for the next three days, accompanied by widespread for and a further drop of 2 to 3 degrees Celsius in temperature.
An orange alert has been issued for Siwan, Saran, Muzaffarpur, Samastipur, Vaishali, Bhojpur, Buxar, Kaimur, Rohtas, Aurangabad, Arwal, Jehanabad, Gaya, Nalanda, Nawada, Sheikhpura, Lakhisarai and Patna district.
Dense fog is expected at several places in these districts over the next few hours.
All districts in Bihar are currently under the grip of a cold wave.
The chill has intensified due to strong westerly winds.
Minimum temperatures in many areas have fallen below 10 degrees Celsius.
On Friday, Gaya, Jehanabad, and Valmikinagar recorded temperatures below 10 degrees Celsius. Sabour in Bhagapur district reported a low of 7.4 degrees Celsius, while Patna remained the coldest location in the state.
Schools closed in Patna and Nalanda:
Considering the cold wave, the Patna district administration has ordered the closure of schools up to Class 8 until December 30.
In Nalanda, the district administration has taken stricter measures.
All educational institutions up to Class 10, including government and private schools, pre-schools, Anganwadi centres, and coaching centres, will remain closed until December 31.
Nalanda district magistrate Kundan Kumar said, “The falling temperatures during morning and evening hours may adversely affect the health of children.”
However, the administration has allowed exemption for special pre-board and board examination preparation classes, provided schools ensure adequate measures to protect students from the cold wave.
The authorities have advised people, especially children, the elderly, and those with health conditions, to avoid elderly, and those with health conditions, to avoid early morning and late evening exposure, stay warm, and follow official advisories during the cold wave.
