Patna, December 22, 2025:

Amid an intense cold wave gripping the district, the Patna district magistrate Tyagarajan SM has imposed a ban on academic activities up to class 8 in all government and private schools, including pre-schools and Anganwadi centres, till December 26, 2025.

The decision has been taken in view of the persistently low temperatures, which are likely to have an adverse impact on the health and safety of children.

Issuing the order, District Magistrate Dr. Tyagarajan SM, exercising power under section 163 of the Bhartiya Nagrik Suraksha Sahita (BNSS), 2023, stated that the restrictions are in continuation of Order Memo Number 18492/Vidhi dated December 19, 2025.

In view of the prevailing low temperature conditions and the likelihood of adverse effects on children’s health, academic activities up to Class 8 in all government and private schools, including pre-schools, and Anganwadi centres, are prohibited in Patna district,” the order stated.

Patna district administration ordered limited timing for senior classes:

According to the order, academic activities for classes above Class 8 may be conducted only between 10.00 am to 3.30 pm.

School managements have been directed to reschedule classes accordingly.

However, special classes and examinations related to pre-board and board examinations have been exempted from the restrictions.

The order will remain in force in Patna district from December 24 to December 26, 2025.

Cold wave persists:

According to the Meteorological Centre in Patna, the absence of sunshine due to westerly and easterly winds has led to a further drop in temperature.

The weather department has indicated that no immediate relief is expected, and the cold wave is likely to continue over the next few days.

The maximum temperature of Patna was recorded at 17 degrees Celsius, and the minimum temperature was 10 degrees Celsius on Tuesday.

The impact of the cold wave is clearly visible across the district.

Traffic movement has reduced during the morning and evening hours, while the elderly and children remain the most affected.

People are resorting to warm clothing and bonfires to protect themselves from the biting cold.

The Patna district administration has appealed to residents to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions to safeguard their health.
