Cold wave intensifies across Bihar as westerly winds lower temperatures.

Patna, January 10, 2026: Cold conditions intensified sharply across Bihar due to the impact of strong westerly winds plunging the state into a prolonged cold wave.

The biting cold and shivering temperatures have made daily life difficult for residents, with no immediate relief expected for the next three to four days, according to meteorological officials.

Weather experts attribute the severe cold to icy winds originating from Jammu & Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh, driven by an active Western Disturbance and continuous snowfall in the Himalayan region.

These cold wave are sweeping across Bihar, pushing temperatures well below normal.

Dense fog, cold wave persist:

Despite occasional sunshine during the day, the cold remains intense due to persistent chilly winds.

Dense fog blankets most parts of the state until around 10 am, severely affecting visibility, daily activities, and transportation.

A cold day situation is prevailing in 36 districts, including Patna, while Darbhanga is witnessing a severe cold day, the Meteorological Department said.

Due to the influence of westerly winds, the minimum temperature has fallen below 6 degrees Celsius in 15 districts.

Gaya recorded the lowest temperature in the state, with a minimum of 4.5 degrees Celsius on Friday.

Sheikhpura reported a maximum temperature of 20 degrees Celsius.

Patna recorded a maximum of 14.5 Degrees Celsius and a Minimum of 9 degrees Celsius on Saturday morning.

The Meteorological Centre has predicted that Patna’s minimum temperature will remain between 5 to 7 degrees Celsius in the next few days.

Yellow alert issued in 32 districts:

The Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert in 32 districts, including West Champaran, East Champaran, Siwan, Saran, Muzaffarpur, Darbhanga, Madhubani, Purnea, Katihar, and Bhagalpur, warning residents to remain cautious amid severe cold conditions.

It has also alerted the residents for the cold day in Aurangabad, Bhojpur, Buxar, Gaya, Kaimur, Munger, Nalanda, Nawada, Patna, Rohtas and some other districts.

Meteorologists have advised people to take adequate precautions against the cold and avoid unnecessary outdoor movement.

Those stepping out are urged to wear warm clothing, including jackets, sweaters, inner layers, mufflers, caps, and gloves, to protect themselves from the harsh cold.

With cold winds expected to continue, Bihar is likely to remain under the grip of intense winter conditions in the coming days.
