Patna, December 7, 2025: Preparation to strengthen Bihar’s dairy sector has gained momentum, with Chief Minister Nitish Kumar inspecting the Patna Dairy Project and Sudha’s Phulwarisarif unit on Sunday and directing officials to further expand the dairy plant.

He emphasized the need to increase the number of milk production committees, engage more people in the sector, and generate new employment opportunities.

Nitish Kumar reviewed the production units closely, including the ice cream plant, yogurt cold room, and other facilities.

After the inspection, he held a detailed meeting with officials and issued several key guidelines for the sector’s development and expansion.

Officials briefed CM Nitish Kumar about the milk production:

S Kapil Ashok, Managing Director of COMFED, presented the current status of dairy projects, expansion plans and data related to milk producers.

He informed that Bihar currently has more than 21,000 village-level milk cooperatives, with 7.5 lakh livestock farmers associated with them, around 25% of whom are women.

Official shared that COMFED’s retail network has now expanded to 37,000 outlets, including 914 whole-day milk booths.

Sudha products are currently supplied across Bihar, Jharkhand, Delhi, Kolkata and several north-eastern states.

Additionally, milk is supplied to various parts of the country through the UHT plant at the Nalanda Dairy Project.

Export of milk products in foreign countries:

In 2025, COMFED also established an international footprint, exporting 5 metric tons of ghee to the United States and 8 metric tons of Gulab Jamun to Canada.

Nitish Kumar’s visit is being seen as a significant step toward modernizing and expanding the dairy sector, with expectations that the new initiatives will boost production and create substantial economic opportunities across the state.
