Patna, September 8, 2025: In a major push towards women’s safety and empowerment, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Monday flagged off 80 new pink buses dedicated exclusively to female passengers.

The service aims to provide safe, comfortable, and dignified travel for women across several districts of the state.

The event was held at Kumar’s residence, in the presence of Deputy CMs Samrat Choudhary, Vijay Kumar Sinha, Transport Minister Sheela Kumari and several other cabinet colleagues.

Nitish Kumar emphasized women’s empowerment:

Calling it a historic step, Kumar said, “We are starting a bus service solely for women. This is an important step towards ensuring that women in our state get safe, accessible, and respectable transportation,” he said.

The move adds to Nitish Kumar’s growing list of women-focused welfare initiatives, including 35% reservation for women in government jobs and education, social security pensions, and support to Jivika Didi groups.

Features of the bus:

Each bus is fitted with three CCTV cameras, monitored directly from the control room. The state transport department has planned to appoint female conductors and drivers wherever possible, to foster trust and safety.

Extra arrangements have been made for pregnant women, ensuring hassle-free travel.

Along with the launch, he also inaugurated the e-ticketing service for 1065 buses running across the state.
