Chhattisgarh ACB and EOW arrested an alleged accused of a liquor scam from Bihar’s Gopalganj district.

Patna, April 12, 2024: In a joint operation, the Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) and the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Chhattisgarh, with the assistance of Bihar Police, arrested an accused in the multi-crore Chhattisgarh liquor scam from Sisai village under Bhorey police station in Gopalganj district on Thursday night.
Gopalganj SP confirmed the joint operation with Chhattisgarh ACB:
Confirming the development, Gopalganj SP Swarn Prabhat said the accused, identified as Arunpati Tripathi, was apprehended after a raid. Tripathi, who earlier served as a director in the Chhattisgarh Excise Department, had been absconding for the past four months following his release from jail.
He had earlier served a nine-month prison term in connection with the case and had switched off his mobile phone to evade arrest.
Tripathi, son of Prakashpati Tripathi of Bhilai (Sector 9), faces serious charges in the alleged Rs 776 crore liquor scam that rocked the state between 2019 and 2022. At least 70 individuals, including senior officials, have been booked in the case.
Accused clarification:
After his arrest, a video message attributed to Tripathi surfaced on social media in which he claimed, “After the formation of the new government, some people are falsely implication me.”
Authorities said further investigation is underway, and Tripathi will be taken to Chhattisgarh for interrogation.
