Patna, October 11, 2025: In a major setback for the BJP ahead of the Bihar Assembly election, Mishrilal Yadav, the MLA from Alinagar constituency in Darbhanga district, has announced his resignation from the party.
Mishrilal Yadav accused the BJP of disrespecting backward classes and claimed that the party had become arrogant and dismissive of grassroots leaders.
He said he would formally submit his resignation to the BJP’s state president soon.
“We felt humiliated in the BJP. Despite winning from a seat where no NDA candidate had succeeded in 30 years, the party did not respect me. Only sycophants are heard now, not hardworking and honest leaders,” Yadav said.
Mishrilal Yadav alleged the BJP has deviated from its original path:
Mishrilal Yadav added that the BJP has strayed from its original path and is now intoxicated with power.”
While Yadav did not disclose his next political move, he hinted at joining a secular party, suggesting that he would contest the Alinagar seat again. He also hinted that his son may also enter the political fray.
Mishrilal Yadav’s political journey has been eventful.
He had won the 2020 Assembly election from Alinagar on a Vikassheel Insaan Party (VIP) ticket, when the party was in the NDA fold.
After VIP split in 2022, Mishrilal Yadav and two other MLAs joined the BJP.
In recent months, Mishrilal Yadav was spotted with RJD leaders, sparking speculation about his next move. Though he initially denied the rumours, his resignation followed soon after denied a party ticket.
Political observers believe Yadav’s exit is a major setback for the NDA:
Political observers view Yadav’s exit as a significant blow to the BJP in the Mithila region, where he commands strong influence among OBC voters.
His departure could realign caste equations in the region, especially if he joins the RJD of Congress.
Analysts also believe Yadav’s revolt reflects a growing discontent among OBC leaders within Bihar’s ruling alliance, signalling that caste and ticket distribution will play a decisive role in shaping the state’s upcoming elections.
