Patna, May 22, 2024: The Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday expelled Bhojpuri film actor and party member Pawan Singh for indulging in anti-party activities after he decided to contest the Karakat Lok Sabha seat as an independent candidate against the NDA’s Upendra Kushwaha.

A letter issued from the office of the BJP:

A letter issued from the office of the BJP state headquarters in-charge Arvind Sharma stated, “Pawan Singh is contesting the Lok Sabha election against the NDA candidate Upendra Kushwaha. This is an anti-party activity. Due to this, the image of the party has been tarnished, and you have worked against party discipline. Hence, the party has expelled you at the direction of the state president, Samrat Choudhary.”

Pawan Singh’s presence has turned the contest in Karakat into a triangular fight. The NDA has fielded Upendra Kushwaha, chief of the Rashtriya Lok Morcha, while the CPI(ML), a Grand Alliance constituent, has nominated Rajaram Singh Kushwaha.

A native of Bhojpur district and belonging to an upper-caste family, Pawan Singh enjoys massive popularity in the region. His candidature is expected to dent the NDA’s upper-caste vote base, traditionally seen as the BJP’s core support group in Bihar.

The BJP offered a Pawan Singh ticket from Asansol:

Earlier, the BJP had offered Singh a ticket from Asansol (West Bengal), which he declined. Reportedly, the actor had hoped for a nomination from Arrah, Karakat, ar Buxar, and after being denied, chose to enter the fray independently from Karakat.

Polling in the Karakat Lok Sabha constituency is scheduled for June 1, in the seventh and final phase of the Lok Sabha elections.
