Patna May 22: BJP Bihar unit expelled leading actor of Bhojpuri film industry Pawan Singh from the party on Wednesday. The actor is facing charges of anti-party activity.

Pawan Singh is a member of the BJP but contesting as an independent candidate against NDA candidate Upendra Kushwaha from the Karakat Lok Sabha constituency in this election. The saffron party believes that his act is against the discipline of the party. Hence, the party has expelled him.

A letter in this regard was issued from the office of BJP state headquarter’s in-charge Arvind Sharma.

As per the letter, it was mentioned: “You (Pawan Singh) are contesting the Lok Sabha election against the NDA candidate (Upendra Kushwaha). This is an anti-party activity. Due to this, the image of the party has been tarnished and you have worked against the discipline of the party. Hence, the party has expelled you on the direction of the state president (Samrat Choudhary).”

The presence of Pawan Singh made the contest triangular in Karakat. NDA has given this seat to Rashtriya Lok Morcha and its national president Upendra Kushwaha is contesting here in Karakat. In a grand alliance, the seat went to CPI-ML and the party gave the ticket to Rajaram Singh Kushwaha.

Pawan Singh belongs to an upper-caste family and a native of the Bhojpur district. His presence may hurt the NDA candidate as the Bhojpuri superstar is expected to cut the upper caste vote bank of BJP. In Bihar, the upper caste people are considered as a core vote bank of the BJP.

Earlier, the BJP had given the ticket to Pawan Singh to contest the election from Asansol in West Bengal but the actor refused. He was expecting the seat of Arrah, Karakat or Buxar. As the BJP did not give the ticket in any of the constituencies of Bihar, he decided to contest as an independent candidate from Karakat.

The polling in the Karakat Lok Sabha constituency will be scheduled in the seventh phase on June 1.
