Bima Bharti met with Lalu Yadav to contest the Rupauli assembly bye-poll
Patna June 18: Bima Bharti, the former MLA from Rupauli presented her claim to contest the bye-poll on this seat on Tuesday.
She met with RJD national president Lalu Prasad Yadav and the leader of the opposition in the Bihar assembly Tejashwi Yadav in the Rabri Devi residence.
When she came out after the meeting, there was a smile on her face, which was telling that the talk was positive.
While interacting with the media, Bima Bharti said: “She will not leave Rupauli seat under any circumstances. Anyone in my family will contest the election.”
“There is no problem anywhere. I have been MLA from this seat many times, so my claim is natural. As far as the defeat in the Lok Sabha election is concerned, the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections are completely different. I have a good interaction with Lalu Yadav. I got his blessings and I will come again in the evening and take the RJD symbol. Either me or my husband Awadhesh Mandal will contest from Rupauli,” Bharti said.
Bima Bharti was elected on the ticket of MLA of JD (U) in the 2020 assembly election. However, she changed his side and went with RJD to contest the Lok Sabha election from Purnea. After the defeat in the Lok Sabha election, she again showed her interest in the Rupauli seat where she had resigned.
A Bye-election will be held in Rupauli assembly constituency of Purnea district on July 10. The last date of filing the nomination is June 21 and candidates can withdraw their names till June 26. The counting will be held on July 13.
Bima Bharti has been elected MLA five times from the Rupauli assembly seat. She won the 2020 Bihar assembly elections on a JD (U) ticket. She has also been an MLA from that seat as an independent and on RJD symbol in the past.
JD (U) has announced the name of Kaladhar Mandal to contest the Rupauli assembly bye-election. LJPR leader and former MLA Shankar Singh has also left Chirag Paswan and announced to contest as an independent candidate.
