Bihar police cancelled the leave of police personnel during Durga Puja.

Patna September 27, 2024: The Bihar police has cancelled the leave of all police personnel and officers during the Durga Puja festival on Friday.

A letter dated September 27, 2024, was issued from the office of Sanjay Kumar, the Additional Director General of Bihar police (Law and Order), where all district SSPs, SPs, commandants of Bihar police battalions and principals of the Bihar police academy have been instructed to enforce the directive in their official jurisdictions.

The decision was taken to maintain communal harmony during the Durga Puja festival this year. It will be effective from October 5 to October 16 this year, during which no cops will be allowed to take leave, except for special cases.

The decision was made following directives from DGP Bihar police Alok Raj. The state government is prioritizing maintaining peace and preventing any communal tensions during the festivities, a time when large gatherings and religious celebrations could pose security challenges.

Durga Puja is a major religious event in eastern India especially in West Bengal, Bihar and Jharkhand, where large numbers of people participate in the 10-day event.

Following the recent crisis in Bangladesh, the security agencies of Bihar are on high alert particularly, in the Seemanchal districts like Kishanganj, Katihar, Purnea and Araria districts which are near the Indo-Bangladesh international border. These areas are especially vulnerable to communal tensions and security challenges during large-scale religious events.

Besides, districts like Begusarai, Bhagalpur, Munger, West Champaran, East Champaran, Darbhanga and other districts of North and Central Bihar are considered vulnerable during religious events.

The Bihar government, along with Bihar police forces, is focused on preventing any disruptions and maintaining communal harmony throughout the event. This has led to a range of preventive measures, including cancelling police leaves, especially in high-risk areas.
