Patna, February 7, 2026: A special event was organized on Saturday to mark the 105th foundation day of the Bihar legislative assembly, celebrating more than a century of Bihar’s rich democratic and legislative traditions.
The event was graced by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh, and Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Kiren Rijiju. A historic day in Bihar’s democratic journey:
February 7 holds special significance in the state’s political history, as it marks the day when the state’s legislative tradition formally began in 1921. On this day, the first session of the Bihar legislative assembly building was held in 1920.

The foundation day celebration is not merely ceremonial, but a tribute to the power of the Constitution, the culture of debate, and the enduring spirit of democracy, which has remained strong for 105 years.
Launch of e-Vidhan and NEVA service centre:
Upon arriving in Patna, Union Minister Kiren Rijju described the occasion as historic and announced that the National e-Vidhan Application (NeVA) would be launched, along with the inauguration of a NEVA Service Centre at the Bihar legislative assembly.

He said the initiative aligns with the vision of Digital India and will empower MLAs by enabling paperless, transparent, and efficient legislative functioning.
“Through the e-Vidhan system, members of the Bihar legislative assembly will get the full benefit of digital technology. That is why I have come here today,: Rijju said, adding that the country is progressing rapidly under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Tight security arrangements:
The administration made elaborate security and law-and-order arrangements to ensure the smooth conduct of the Foundation Day celebrations.
A legacy that endures:
After the separation of Bihar and Odisha from Bengal in 1912, the need for an independent legislative body was felt, leading to the establishment of the Bihar legislative assembly.

Since February 7, 1921, this date has remained synonymous with the state’s democratic identity—an identity that continues to thrive even after 105 years.
