Patna, September 24, 2025: Bhupesh Baghel, the former Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh, launched a sharp attack on the NDA government in Bihar and the Centre while speaking to reporters during the Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting in Patna.
Bhupesh Baghel accused the ruling coalition of failing on key issues like unemployment, governance and economic management.
Targeting the Nitish Kumar-led state government, Baghel said, “ Today, Bihar has a double-engine government, but this government has become weak. Its ring and piston have failed. The Bihar government has lost its life. The unemployment rate is the highest.”
Bhupesh Baghel criticized the Centre and institutions:
He also hit out at the Narendra Modi-led Central Government for allegedly undermining democratic institutions.
“Attempts are being made to weaken the institutions that strengthen the country’s democracy. The CBI and ED are being used to harass opponents,” he alleged.
Highlighting economic distress, Bhupesh Baghel said that people’s purchasing power has drastically declined, making it difficult for them to celebrate festivals or spend on essentials.

“When GST was implemented, Congress opposed it. The Prime Minister had called it a revolutionary step and a second independence. Now, after reducing five slabs to two, he is again calling it revolutionary. This is nothing but a way to loot the people,” Baghel said.
He further claimed that MNREGA workers are not receiving payments and that the country’s economic situation has worsened under the current regime.
Foreign policy jibes:
Bhupesh Baghel also questioned the Modi government’s handling of international relations and border security.
“Our leader, Rahul Gandhi, has consistently raised his voice against China’s interference. Today, the situation in our neighboring countries—Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Nepal—is not good. The executive, judiciary and legislative systems in Nepal have been dismantled, which is a matter of concern,” he said.

Taking a swipe at India’s ties with the United States, Baghel added, After Operation Sindoor, India sent delegations to other countries, but no nation supported us. Instead, the US, led by Modi’s friend Trump, imposed a 50% tariff on India, and the Indian government did not protest or retaliate.
Congress stands:
Bhupesh Baghel said that Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, in his inaugural address at the CWC meeting, emphasized rising unemployment, delayed MNREGA payments, and the country’s deteriorating economy as key issues that the party will take to the people ahead of the upcoming elections.
