Patna, April 11, 2024: After the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) dropped former Union Minister Ashwini Kumar Choubey from its list of candidates for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the veteran leader claimed that a conspiracy within the party led to his exclusion.

A video of Choubey addressing his supporters during a meeting in Patna on April 8 has surfaced on social media. In the video, he can be heard saying, “I don’t know what the party understands or doesn’t understand about me, but yes, some conspirators were there and they will be exposed after the election. Don’t worry about me. Everything will become fine. I will stay in Buxar, and the nomination has not started yet.”

Ashwini Kumar Choubey expressed disappointment over the BJP’s decision:

Earlier the same day, while interacting with the media in Patna, Choubey had expressed his disappointment over the party’s decision.

“Today, I am breaking my silence after 15 days. I do not understand why the party cancelled my ticket. What was my fault that the party did not give me a chance to contest the election?” he said.

Ashwini Kumar Choubey was excluded from the list of 17 candidates:

The BJP had announced its list of 17 candidates from Bihar on March 24, dropping two sitting MPs—Ashwini Kumar Choubey from Buxar and Ajay Nishad from Muzaffarpur. Following the announcement, Ajay Nishad resigned from the BJP and joined the Congress, later contesting from Muzaffarpur on a Congress ticket.

In Choubey’s place, the BJP fielded Mithilesh Tiwari from Buxar, while Raj Bhushan Nishad was given the ticket from Muzaffarpur.

Choubey, a senior BJP leader and long-time MP from Buxar, has been a prominent figure in Bihar politics for decades. His recent remarks have drawn attention to internal rifts within the party’s Bihar unit during the crucial election season.
