An 8-foot-long crocodile was rescued by forest officials from a house in Bhagalpur.
Patna November 8, 2024: In an unusual incident, an 8-foot-long crocodile unexpectedly entered the Puja room of Mukhiya Ghanshyam Kumar’s home in Pakada village, Naugachia police district, Bihar, around 2:00 am during Chhath Puja celebrations.
The family locked the crocodile in a room:
Ghanshyam Kumar’s family, who had stayed awake late for the festival, was alarmed by noises from the Puja room and discovered the animal inside.
The family managed to close the room door to prevent further agitation and immediately alerted local authorities and the forest department.
Forest officials rescued the crocodile in half an hour:
Aman Kumar from the Naugachia Rang Forest Office promptly informed senior officers and a seven-member team was dispatched to the forest department, along with wildlife specialists Dolphin Mitra and Bird Guide, who joined the operation.
“The rescue began at around 2:40 am, and in approximately half an hour, the team managed to secure the wild animal by covering its eyes with cloth and tying it with ropes. The animal was safely transported to the Naugachia forest department office,” Aman Kumar said.
Aman Kumar confirmed that the animal was unharmed and noted, “The animal is about 8 feet long, and no one was injured during the rescue”.

In addition, Aman Kumar shared that during Chhath Puja, his team had proactively raised awareness about potential crocodile sightings at various ghats, advising people to report immediately if a crocodile was seen.
Posters were put up to enhance public awareness, and the forest department had been monitoring this specific wild animal since before Diwali.
With this successful capture, Kumar expressed satisfaction, describing it as a significant accomplishment for the Naugachia forest department.
The team is now awaiting orders from the District Forest Officer to release the crocodile back into the main channel of the Ganges River.
