Patna, March 28, 2024: The All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM), led by Asaduddin Owaisi, has announced it will contest 16 Lok Sabha seats in Bihar in the 2024 general elections.
AIMIM will field candidates in Darbhanga, Parliputra, Kishanganj, Madhubani, Katihar, Muzaffarpur, Gopalganj, Sheohar, Purnea, Araria, Sitamarhi, Karakat, Maharajganj, Samastipur, Paschim Champaran, and Valmiki Nagar.
“Our party wanted to be a part of the INDIA bloc, but they did not allow us to get inside the alliance. We will fight alone in Bihar and will stop BJP from coming into power again,” said Akhtarul Iman, Bihar state president.
AIMIM’s impact on RJD’s my equation:
The entry of AIMIM is expected to trouble the INDIA bloc, especially the RJD, as Muslims form a key component of its MY (Muslim-Yadav) vote bank. In the 2020 Bihar Assembly polls, the party had won five seats and cut into RJD-Congress votes in more than 20 constituencies. A similar situation could unfold in the upcoming Lok Sabha election.
Iman also pointed out the lack of representation for Muslims:
“The Muslim community is lagging behind in every section. Even the caste-based survey of Bihar has shown our backwardness. Still, no major political party is promoting Muslim leaders in Bihar or in the country.”
He further announced that AIMIM would support Hina Sahab if she contests the 2024 Lok Sabha elections from Siwan.
