Patna, July 15, 2024: A hardcore Naxal operative was arrested by Aurangabad police from the district’s Rafiganj block on Monday.
District SP Swapna Gautam Meshram said that the alleged hardcore Naxal operative, identified as Shyam Bihari Chandravansi, is involved in many cases of extortion in the region.
17 FIR registered against Naxal operative:
A total of 17 FIRs were registered against him in the different police stations in Bihar and Jharkhand. Bihar police announced a bounty of Rs 1 lakh on his head. Chandravansi was an area commander of the region.
The alleged Naxal operative is a native of Jujharpur village under the Goh police station area in the district. He was arrested from Chandaul village under Rafiganj police station on Monday.
Chandravansi was recently involved in setting an earth mover machine (JCB) on fire in Pogar village under Rafiganj block. He was demanding a levy from the brick kiln’s owner.
Aurangabad Police statement:
“On June 4, around 1 am, Chandravansi, along with 9 armed Naxal operatives, attacked a brick kiln in Pogar village. They have beaten the owner and workers of that brick kiln and set a JCB machine on fire. They have also threatened them with dire consequences if the levy, which has not been paid for the last five years, is not settled,” Meshram said.
An FIR was registered against 7 persons and 2 unidentified persons under the IPC sections 341, 323, 386, 387, 435, 504, 506, 34 and 13,16,17 and 18 of the National Security Act 1980 in Rafiganj police station.
“Following that incident, we have constituted a police team headed by SDPO-2 of Aurangabad. They have raided several places and finally arrested the accused. The accused confessed to his crime and also revealed the names of other Naxal operatives,” she said.
