PM Narendra Modi inaugurated Purnea Airport and unveiled Rs. 36,000 crore projects for Bihar.

Patna, September 15, 2025: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday inaugurated the long-awaited Purnea airport, flagging off the first commercial IndiGo Airlines flight from the facility.
Built at a cost of Rs. 40,000 crore, the airport is expected to transform connectivity for the Seemanchal and Kosi regions, placing Purnea on India’s air traffic map and positioning it as a future economic hub of eastern India.
The airport, which will soon link Purnea with Delhi, Hyderabad, Bengaluru and Mumbai, is expected to spur trade, tourism, and job creation in one of Bihar’s most underdeveloped regions.

Alongside the airport, PM Modi also inaugurated the Araria—Galgalia—Thakurganj new rail line (Rs 4,410 crore) and flagged off three new train services: Jogbani—Danapur Vande Bharat Express, Jogbani—Erode Amrit Bharat Express, and Saharsa—Amritsar Amrit Bharat Express.
PM Narensra Modi also laid the foundation stone for the Vikramshila—Katariya rail line (Rs. 2,170 crore).
PM Narendra Modi’s Power, water and irrigation projects:
A 2,400 MW Thermal Power Project worth Rs. 25,000 crore at Pirpaiti in Bhagalpur, the Kosi—Mechi interstate river link project (Phase 1) at the cost of Rs. 2,680 crore, and Namami Gange projects, including STPs, drinking water schemes for Darbhanga, Katihar, and Bhagalpur, were also launched.
PM Narendra Modi also handed over keys to 40,920 families under the PM Awas Yojana. These houses were built at a cost of Rs. 603 crore.
Besides these, PM Narendra Modi distributed Rs 500 crore to beneficiaries under community investment, and inaugurated a semen bank in a facility in Purnea at a cost of Rs. 64 crore.

He also inaugurated the National Makhana Board to support farmers of Bihar’s famed makhana crop.
Welcomed with cultural performances and a makhana garland, PM Narendra Modi arrived in an open jeep accompanied by CM Nitish Kumar, Deputy CMs Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha.
Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu and BJP state president Dilip Jaiswal were also present.
