Patna, July 26, 2025: With the Bihar Assembly elections drawing near, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Saturday laid the foundation stones of several key development projects worth over Rs. 650 crore in Madhubani district, promising better infrastructure, improved irrigation, and enhanced tourism.

Accompanied by Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary and Water Resources Minister Vijay Kumar Chaudhary, Nitish Kumar inaugurated a series of projects from the Laukahi block, aiming to boost connectivity, reduce flood risks, and create public amenities in the region.

Nitish Kumar laid the foundation of major road and irrigation projects:

One of the flagship projects is the construction of an approach road and Railway Over Bridge (ROB) at railway crossing number-39C, located between NH-527B and Khajauli-Jaynagar railway stations.

The Rs 178 crore project, being executed by the Road Construction Department, is expected to significantly improve local commuting and reduce congestion.

In a push to tackle the region’s recurring flood woes, Nitish Kumar laid the foundation for the revival of Old Kamaladhar and Jeevchh Kamala rivers, as well as the construction of four weirs and related flood mitigation infrastructure under the Water Resources Department.

These efforts, costing Rs 264.93 crore and Rs.161.08 crore respectively, aim to expand irrigation and control flooding in Jaynagar and Jhanjharpur during the monsoon.

Urban and tourism boost:

Nitish Kumar also laid the foundation of a new bus stand in Madhubani, funded by the Urban Development and Housing Department at a cost of Rs.14.53 crore, and tourism development works at Phoolhar Sthan in Harlakhi, worth Rs. 31.13 crore, under the Tourism Department.

Phoolhar Sthan holds mythological significance as the site of the first meeting between Lord Ram and Goddess Sita, and the government aims to develop it as a cultural and religious tourism destination.

These development announcements come as part of commitments made during the “Pragati Yatra” earlier this year and are being seen as part of the government’s last-leg push before the upcoming assembly polls.

“These projects are not just infrastructure; they are investments in the future of Madhibani,” said a senior government official present during the ceremony.
