The Nitish Kumar cabinet has approved 35% reservation in government jobs exclusively for native women.

Patna, July 8, 2025: In a major step towards women’s empowerment ahead of the Bihar Assembly Election 2025, the Nitish Kumar-led government has approved 35% reservation exclusively for native women candidates in all categories of direct appointments across all government services in the state.
The decision was taken during a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Tuesday, which cleared 43 proposals during the hour-long meeting.
Only the native of Bihar are entitled to quota as per the Nitish Kumar cabinet approval:
Under the approved policy, only women who are natives of Bihar will be eligible for 355 reservations in government jobs.
Women from other states will not be entitled to this reservation in Bihar.
The government stated that this move aims to provide greater employment opportunities and representation for women in the state’s administrative structure, ensuring that the benefits of reservation directly empower Bihar’s women.

The approval of women’s reservation and the Bihar Youth Commission in the same cabinet meeting is being seen as a strategic move by the Nitish government, as both youth and women are key constituencies ahead of the 2025 elections, with both the NDA and the Grand Alliance attempting to court these groups.
This decision is expected to further the state’s commitment to inclusive governance while strengthening local participation in government services.
