A youth displayed the Palestinian flag in East Champaran.

Patna July 17: A youth displayed the flag of Palestine during the Muharram procession in Bihar’s East Chaparan district on Wednesday.

The incident occurred at Ward Number 10 of Mehasi Nagar Panchayat in the district around 10 am.

Action of district police: Satyendra Kumar Singh, the SDPO of Chakia range confirms the incident.

“We have detained a youth for displaying the flag of Palestine on Wednesday. Legal action initiated against him,” Singh said.

He added that the questioning of the alleged youth is underway.

Keeping in view of the Muharram procession, district police carried out flag marches in several areas to maintain the law and order situation intact.

Past incidents: This is not the first incident in Bihar. Earlier on July 12 a youth displayed the Palestinian flag during the Muharram procession in Darbhanga’s Qila Ghat. Besides, three persons were arrested from Nawada in a similar procession on July 15 as well.

During the Muharram procession, unruly incidents were reported in several districts in Bihar this year.

Unruly incidents during Muharram: On July 15, three members of the family who were traveling from Madhubani to Patna were attacked by a group of men during the Muharram procession in the Dalsinghsarai subdivision in Samastipur. A minor boy was injured in that attack.

On July 16, a group of men during a similar march attacked a police team in a locality that comes under the jurisdiction of Ahiyapur police station.

On July 16 around 9.20 pm, a grocery shop owner was attacked in Patna’s Raja Bazar area. The police in this incident said that the people involved in the procession had smashed the glass door of a refrigerator.
